The Company

People in Common (PIC) began in the 1970s as a Housing Co-op. In 2005 - 2006 it took on the form of a political picnic in Parliament Square. For its latest incarnation PIC has formed itself as a theatre company, with the aim of putting on events and performances in the public spaces of the city.

Ashmeed Sohoye
Ashmeed Sohoye is a Learning Mentor at Kingsmead School, and has also written numerous plays for and about young people including Bliss (Haymarket Theatre, Leicester), Yeah Whatever (Half Moon), Ya Get Me (Old Vic) and, most recently the critically acclaimed 'Rigged'. Other plays include Indenture (Talawa Theatre Co) and Swingers which was set in a young offenders institution. His work for television includes two series of the sit-com Tottenham 2 (Channel 4), and his short film Blood has played at film festivals around the world. Ash's main concern is looking at where to find compassion, where you may think none exists and especially in the lives of young people.

Corinne Micallef
Corinne Micallef directs young companies and community groups all over the world, works with primary and secondary schools all over London, lectures in Community Performance Practice at London Metropolitan University and teaches at the National Theatre.

Teresa Hoskyns
Teresa Hoskyns is an architectural designer and researcher and teacher. She studied for an MA in architecture at the Royal College of Art in London and a PhD at the Bartlett school of Architecture, UCL specializing in public space. She has recently finished a period of teaching undergraduate students architecture at the University of Cambridge where she focused her teaching on theatre and arts space design. Teresa worked on the theatre tent and site design for Peter Pan in Hyde Park. Teresa is fascinated by the Agon for connecting public space, theatre and political debate

Mark Barrett
Mark Barrett is a campaigner and tour guide who works closely with young people at Kingsmead. He studied for a Postgraduate degree in Law, and has worked as a tour guide throughout Europe and managed numerous public activities both with young people and in his work with civil society groups. Mark is interested in the Agon and its potential through theatre and the operation of new media to address the issue of social and political exclusion.

Jacqueline Steinmetz
Jacqueline Steinmetz studied an MA in Cultural Studies. In 1996-2001 she worked as a journalist and feature writer for a major television broadcaster in Germany. She has also produced short features on International Festival for Documentary & Animation; A-Cappella Festival in Leipzig. In 2003 she co-founded the Vertigo Film Club in Leytonstone, a cinema and exhibition space hosting poetry and performances.She has also facilitated Ken Campbell theatre workshops and worked as a co-researcher for short animation "Yours Truly" by Filmmaker Osbert Parker which won the BAA Award.

Jac has also worked as animation coordinator at the National Film and Television School, coordinated dance performances with projection at dance theatre the place. Jac is now studying for an MA in Creative Producing at Birkbeck College, London.

Jenny Harris
Jenny worked as Director of Education for the National Theatre for 17 years and now works on social regeneration projects with the Albany Theatre.

Mahesh Sharma
Mahesh Sharma has a background in marketing and events organisation. He is a founder of Down2Earth, and manages several projects in India to facilitate community-based research into sustainable solutions to issues of poverty, poor sanitation and denial of basic rights, as well as organising and stage managing events working with and showing the innate talent and potential of children that have experienced disadvantaged circumstances.

Anna Karlsson
Anna Karlsson has a background in conservation and sustainable development and works with environmental education projects with Down2Earth. She has worked within the not for profit sector for the past 6 years, and designs and manages website for small organisations and enterprises.

Jan Evans
Jan Evans is an inspiring teacher, member of the Senior Learning Team at Kingsmead School and a much loved member of the school community. She has been like a rock throughout the project.
